The Dapper Chapper Chatters in Tatters

What can I say but.....whoops. I was supposed to update this about 4 months ago and well due to one thing another that hasn't really happened. So yet another blog attempt is in tatters, hence the title. I will now resolve to update whenever I can but clearly setting myself a time table isn't really working for me.

On my first blog entry I did mention how excited I was about the return of the Doctor to our screens. As I write now we are 9 episodes into series six including an incredibly frustrating four month hiatus between parts 1 and 2. It seems to me that the series so far has been a bit of a marmite affair. Personally I'm very much in the love it camp. Sure, there have been some episodes that will be rewatched less than others but still believe it to be so strong, so clever and most of all so intriguing.

The fact that Stephen Moffat keeps throwing in new questions along with his sprinkling of answers keeps the show interesting. I really love the way time travel is used in this arc, not just as an incidental "oh we're in 16th century Florence" etc but in a way integral to the plot. Something Dr Who hasn't really done as much as a show about time travel should.

I understand the worry amongst some fans that if it becomes too self indulgent and "too clever" the BBC may wield the axe again but I think this is unlikely, Dr who is a huge product for the BBC so much money must be generated from merchandise alone to keep it going. I also don't believe anything can be too clever, in a world of "The only way is Essex" and "Young, Dumb and Living off Mum" the BBC would not be fulfilling its remit if it didn't provide programming for those of us with brains larger than a grape?
